Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis is a Greek Naval Officer and since 2015 the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS).
During his career he served in succession of command and staff positions aboard ships, mainly on Destroyers and Amphibious ships as Communications, Navigations and Operations Officer, and senior staff positions in the Greek Navy and NATO. His shore and staff assignments include service as Deputy Commander and Commander of the Underwater Demolition Command (DYK), Adjutant of the Minister of National Defence, Director of Administration of Souda Naval Base, Chief of Staff of Senior Naval Command Aegean and Deputy Chief of Staff STRIKEFORNATO Naples IT.
He also served as the Commanding Officer of MSC HS ATALANTI, MSC HS KISSA and FFGH HS NAVARINON. As a Commodore, he assumed duties of Director of the Hellenic Navy General Staff Personnel Branch, as a Rear Admiral he was assigned Deputy Commander in Chief of Hellenic Fleet and when he promoted to Vice Admiral, he served as Deputy Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS). From 2013 to 2015 he assumed the duties of the Chief of Staff of the Hellenic Navy General Staff (HNGS). In 2015, he promoted to the rank of Admiral.
Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis entered the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1976 and graduated in 1980 as a Line Ensign. He has completed the Underwater Demolitions Team School of the Hellenic Navy while he is a graduate of the Advance Mine Warfare School (Belgium), the Amphibious Warfare School USMC (USA) and the Hellenic Naval War College.
He has been awarded with all the medals, decorations and commendations stipulated for an officer of his rank and seniority. He was born in Rethymnon, Crete in 1957. He is married and has two children.
