Dr. Sergei Goncharenko is the Head of the Department on Black Sea and Mediterranean Studies of the Institute of Europe at Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Chairman of the International Centre of Black Sea Studies (ICBSS) Board of Directors since 2006, he has previously served as a Russian Senior Official at the Black Sea economic cooperation (BSEC), a Committee of Senior Officials (BSEC CSO), a Chairman of BSEC CSO in 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 and a Russian National Director at the International Centre of Black Sea Studies (ICBSS), Athens.
Dr. Sergei Goncharenko has also served as the Deputy Director of the Department of economic cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in charge of the Black Sea economic cooperation (BSEC) and economic working groups in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Barents/Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC).
